can money buy happiness

dear audience and judges,

my topic is "can money buy happiness".

as we all know, money can buy all the goods in our life, no matter how huge it is. a spaceship, for example, if you really feel your bank account can afford it.

however, when it comes to love, satisfaction, happiness and many other human feelings, it is completely not like this. the result of many recent research can support my point. they said that, though people received far more money than ever, their standard for happiness also rised. that means, if you had one yuan, a car might be your dream, but if you had one million, you might consider owning a space trip. so when people always hope for those they can not afford, they will push themselves to an unhappy situation.

anyhow, money equal wealthy in life but not happiness in mind. only by changing our attitude to money and enjoying every day, can we obtain a truely happy future!

law opened the bottom drawer of my sisters bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. this, he said, is not a slip. this is lingerie. he discarded the tissue and handed me the slip.

it was exquisite, silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. the price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached.

jan bought this the first time we went to new york, at least 8 or 9 years ago. she never wore it. she was saving it for a special occasion.

well, i guethis is the occasion.

he took the slip from me and put it on the bed, with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. his hands lingered on the soft material for a moment, then he slammed the drawer shut and turned to me, dont ever save anything for a special occasion. every day you re alive is a special occasion.

i remembered those words through the funeral and the days that followed when i helped him and my niece attend to all the sad chores that follow an unexpected death. i thought about them on the plane returning to california from the midwestern town where my sisters family lives. i thought about all the things that she hadnt seen or heard or done. i thought about the things that she had done without realizing that they were special.

im still thinking about his words, and theyve changed the weeds in the garden. im spending more time with my family and friends and letime in committee meetings. whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experience to savour, not endure. im trying to recognize these moment now and cherish them.

im not saving anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special. event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, the first camellia blossom… i wear my good blazer to the market if i feel like it. my theory is if i look prosperous, i can shell out $28. 49 for one small bag of groceries without wincing. im not saving my good perfume for special parties; clerks in hardware stores and tellers in banks have noses that function as well as my party going friends.

someday and one of these days are losing their grip on my vocabulary. if its worth seeing or hearing or doing, i want to see and hear and do it now. im not sure what my sister wouldve done had she know that she wouldnt be here for the tomorrow we all take for granted.

i think she would have called family members and a few close friends. she might have called a few former friends to apologize, and mend fences for past squabbles. i like to think she would have gone out for a chinese dinner, her favorite food. im guessing. ill never know.

its those little things left undone that would make me angry if i knew that my hours were limited. angry because i put off seeing good friends whom i was going to get in touch with someday. angry because i hadnt written certain letters that i intended to write one of these days. angry and sorry that i didnt tell my husband and daughter often enough how much i truly love them.

im trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. and every morning when i open my eyes, i tell myself that every day, every minute, every breath truly, is... a gift from god.

thank you for giving me this opportunity to improve my oral english. thank you

good morning, ladies and gentlemen. isquo;d like to share my teaching dream with you. but before that, i want to say something about the beginning of this dream. in march this year, three teachers from australia came to our school. during the meeting, we exchanged a lot about education. i found that though we have almost the same teaching philosophy, we have different routines. what impressed me most was that their schools end at 3:00 in the afternoon and have no night classes. i cansquo;t tell which kind of routine is better, but the sharp contrast made me think about a better education. the following is a dreamy school in my mind, in which there is no pressure but pleasure.

in this school, the buildings are well designed, close to nature. in the morning, children can read while enjoying the beautiful sunrise. in the evening, they can exercise by the lake reflecting the amazing sunset. in the spring, they can go to the wild, lie on the lawn, and watch the kite flying in the blue sky. in the summer, they can go to the forest, live in a cabin, and listen to the rhythm of the rain. …

students are free but polite and they respect each other. they can leave at 4:00 every afternoon, or perhaps earlier. they have the freedom to organize time. they can go to the library, go to the lab, the computer rooms or the playground. theysquo;re self-motivated and have a strong thirst for knowledge. and there are no frequent exams and rankings. students wonsquo;t be forced to wear uniforms everyday, and there is no required hair style. everyday is so colorful that they are looking forward to the next day when going to bed at night,

every teacher in this school can give a course as they like. there is no tedious rating, no scraps of quantitative management and no rigid standard. teachers can fully display their personality in class, and they feel very happy and content to teach. every morning, on thoughts of giving lessons, they are excited. after class, they are delighted , with smiles on their faces. some experts, scholars and masters are also visiting teachers in this school.yang zhenning can give physics classes for a day. yi zhongtian opens lectures on chinese culture for a week. speaking of music, we can ask wang lihong to give music lectures, just as he did in oxford university. if necessary, we can also invite david beckham to speak something about the world cup …

the principal of the school focuses on education rather than waste time in endless meetings and social activities. teacherssquo; wages are not high but enough to live comfortably. there are no other things to do except to teach. there are no paper requirements, no titles and no ranks because they donsquo;t need to be judged by those things. almost every teacher is a well-known scholar and master in a particular field. a language teacher may be a writer at the same time. a math teacher may try to overcome a world-class guess. a physics teacher can win invention awards and a music teacher may return from an international music competition again.

in short, in this school, the principal is satisfied, the teachers are happy and the students are joyful. thatsquo;s my dream.

why spend your days in fear?

why do you spend your time in sadness? know that you are the source of all happiness。

why do you spend your days in fear? know that your mere sight can make difficulties disappear。 why do you cry and ask for help?

know that you are the best man for your own help。 why do you feel so weak and helpless? know that you are, in all sides, matchless。 why do you feel so depressed?

know that you are the blessed。 why do you feel so stressed? know that you can have anything at your orders。 why don’t you act on opportunities? know that you can go through all disasters。 why don’t you live life to the full? know that there is no point in being dull。 why do you doubt your talent and skill? know that you can achieve anything with your incredible will。 why do you spend life feeling so miserable4?know that no matter what, your soul is indestructible。

i wanna welcome everybody here in this cheer team. thank you for coming here this morning to stand on my side cheering me on. itsquo;s my dream to have the opportunity to challenge all the foreign athletes to the championship at this great occasion: 20xx olympic games. now, the dream came true. as an athlete of china, isquo;m here to win the gold medal of orienteering for our motherland.

isquo;m so proud of being one of the best players in the world. but could you believe i had been a lazy girl when i was in junior high. isquo;m not kidding! at that time, running was my last favorite. i really donsquo;t know how to describe the first time i was on the track. it was horrible. when i started to run, i was simply out of breath. and while i touched the finishing line, i really didnsquo;t know if i was still alive. itsquo;s so funny, huh? but itsquo;s true, i did.

well, something happened and changed the situation. we won the right of holding the olympic games in 20xx. after that, sports became a kind of game in campus. and there are many sports clubs in school. one day someone asked me:are you gonna try one of those?first i felt so wired.

try to get into sports clubs? are you kidding? i said. and she goes: why not? itsquo;s not hard at all, and so fascinating! so i did tried one and i was so lucky to become one of those who did orienteering. that is a fantastic sport! you need to run and find where to go just by using a map and a compass. itsquo;s wasnsquo;t popular in china at first. but when we heard it might become a new event in 20xx, we did practiced hard, and aimed to win the first champion of orienteering in the world. when we practiced, there were a lot of troubles. you know, sometimes you need to go with your feet, but sometimes you need to go with your heart. in some situations, we faced the difficulties and problems. and we need to solve that through teamwork and strong willpower. so we can run faster, go higher and be stronger. that is what we say—olympic spirit.

now the dream came true. isquo;m standing here with all my body and my heart put in sports. so do the people from all over the world to here at the olympic games. itsquo;s the olympic games that make us together. we are here for a big day of sport; we are here for a dream of sports. we are here for a spirit of sport that encourages us to face the difficulties of today and tomorrow.
